Reconciliation IV

As we have learned reconciliation begins with the individual, and it also begins locally. We cannot affect the world stage until we heal the neighborhoods. As we go into the weekend search your heart for local needs for reconciliation, and begin to plan out how to begin a conversation about those needs and what prevents the barriers from coming down.

For example, ask yourself are their institutions or people who appear to be the foundations and pillars of a healthy community, but in reality simply entrench power in the hands of a select few and diminish the lives of those who live and work in the community. How do we begin the conversation about caring for the least among us, as opposed to increasing the bounty of the wealthiest.

Peoples’ views differ on the approach to such an issue, but that is healthy in a community. What is unhealthy is to make the differences the focus. What the conversation should be about is where is there common ground, what is the context of those with different opinions, and can we all listen with open hearts and minds.

The journey toward reconciliation is not easy, and most people can’t take the first step because it forces them to act on faith, but we are each called to make the journey. So embrace the journey, get on your feet, and be inspired to act.
