Responsibility

Let him that would move the world, first move himself.    Socrates
In football one learns to take responsibility for one’s assignment before chasing after the ball. For instance, it is tempting for a linebacker to go flying toward the ball carrier the moment the ball is snapped, but if the play is a trap or a reverse the linebacker’s failure to take care of his part of the field first can result in a long gain for the other team.
Last week we talked a lot about happiness, and we learned that first and foremost our happiness is our responsibility, and as my friend who decided to “seek change” it is our responsibility not to linger in an unhappy state, but to be the change we all seek.
Socrates, puts it much more simply. Our happiness and unhappiness is up to us, no one else.
