Scraps From Our Table

And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Matthew 15:27

Most of the readers of the Pew haven’t had to eat scraps from someone’s table, but can you imagine how humiliating it must be? One of God’s loudest calls to each and everyone of us is to walk in another’s shoes on occasion. And in that vain, consider walking in a person’s shoes who relies on donations and food and clothing for survival. Everyone of us has scraps in our pantries and closets. Whole books are being written about decluttering and simplifying, yet we hold on to those cans of sardines that will never be opened and that old coat and hat vainly hoping that they might come back in style or it holds some kind of sentimental value. It’s not Christmas, Thanksgiving, or any other holiday where guilt drives one to drop a few scraps in a bucket. Walk a mile in someone’s shoes, and I bet you won’t feel like someone needs to ask for scraps. you will give willingly, and I suggest you will also find on those shelves and closets more than scraps.
