Testy

We all get testy at times, irritated and angry for no good reason. As we get older we might hear, “Did you take your blood pressure medicine.” When we are younger we might give being hungry or not enough sleep as a lame excuse. What’s important is that our testiness and irritated nature doesn’t become a permanent fixture.

I sometimes wonder if God didn’t send Jesus to the world because we were getting him wrong. The Hebrew Scriptures give us a picture of an angry God, quick to fly of the handle and irritated at humans, especially his “chosen people.” Perhaps, he sent his son to say, “Quit picturing me in your image, as opposed to the other way around.” God is forgiving, loving, slow to anger and patient.

I worry about myself when I become irritated and testy. It doesn’t wear well on me or anyone else for that matter. As we meditate this week spend a little time reflecting on adjusting one’s image to more mirror the God of the Gospels, not the one early man assumed acted like him/her.
