War

War has been part of the human experience since the beginning of history. There are many forms of war. There is the shoot em up, bomb em’ out kind, and there is the psychological kind. Wars have been fought by Americans on distant shores, and twice inside our own boundaries.

Wars are fought within families, against neighbors, and against strangers. In the Middle East and Afghanistan, war and violence seem to be a constant, and many fear that even in the U.S. the economy, the racial divide, and the constant drumbeat of hatred that permeates our media will bring some form of war back inside our boundaries.
Many suggest solutions that only pit neighbor against neighbor, belief against belief, the poor against the rich.
The only place war cannot find a home is in a pure heart, and in the message of all major faiths — love thy neighbor and do unto them as you would do for thyself.
In this morning’s meditation and every day thereafter remind yourself that each of us must resist the call for war in whatever form it takes.
