God’s Voice

Who hasn’t wished they could hear God’s voice on occasion. Faced with a difficult decision we want so badly for God to speak in a clear voice about what we should do.

But today I want to discuss God’s voice in a different context, for I believe we do hear the voice of God, we just don’t recognize it as such. Nor do we realize we are called to speak with the “voice of God” ourselves.
I know that on numerous occasions when I listen to the podcasts of Luis Leon’s sermons I am hearing the “voice of God.” No, I don’t think Luis sounds anything like God might sound, nor do I think Luis is channeling God through some out of body experience. But I do believe I hear the voice of God in Luis’s sermons. So too, do I believe I hear the voice of God in the words and actions of many others. We need only be attentive and alert for Pentecost did not happen just that one time, it happens all the time.
When one’s voice turns gentle and when our words express only love, the Holy Spirit rests in each of us just like the early apostles. We may not sound like God, or be able to channel God, but each and every one of us has the capability and the obligation to speak with the voice of God.
