Things That Pass Away, and Things That Are Eternal

Part of Lenten fasting is to recognize that there are things we think we can’t live without, but after forty days we realize we can indeed live without.

Friendships come in all forms. Some are intense for  a short period of time, but burn out. Some last a long time, but lack the substance involved in real friendship. Then there are those that seem perfect, but something happens and the relationship passes away. Finally, there are those few that are eternal. They may burn hot and cold, be separated over long periods of time, but are relationships that are simply worth our effort to hold on to for as long as we exist.
During our Lenten meditations it is a worth while endeavor to think about friendships, relationships, people who are worth keeping a tight grip on. It is worth our time to narrow our focus on things that are eternal. Few material things are eternal, but if we are fortunate and work hard, there are a lot of relationships that are worth keeping until the end of our days.
