Reconciliation 14

I hope I haven’t given you the impression that reconciliation is easy, it’s not. Take for example, tonight is the President’s State of the Union Address, and before it is even given both parties appear to be drawing lines in the sand. Perhaps having the Address in a big chamber on national TV is not the best way to start a reconciliation. I might of suggested that the President and the congressional leadership sit down over a meal and a few beers with no cameras and no press and truly listen to each other. I know I’m dreaming.

Hospitality is not a bad starting place for reconciliation. Jesus used to take his disciples into the homes of tax collectors, sinners, etc. In fact a thorough reading of the gospels will surprise you in the number of shared meals and wine that bring about serious conversation. Even Jesus’s last conversation with his disciples was over a meal on the beach.
There is something about the intimacy of hospitality that breaks down the barriers to reconciliation. Keep that in mind as you stride toward living reconciliation each and every day.
