Peaceable Fruit

Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous; nevertheless afterward it yieldeth a peaceable fruit unto them which are exercised thereby…. – Hebrews 12:51.

I had trouble with this passage at first, but then I realized it was describing for many a typical day. Consider the particular annoyance that befell you yesterday morning; the words that grieved your spirit, the day’s disappointments, the nagging pain in the neck (or in my case the knees). Yet sometime during your day you might have received a compliment, or a feeling of accomplishment, or simply a special smile or hug from a spouse, a child, a friend, or in my case from a grandchild and that one thing makes your day, your life seem worthwhile – the “peaceable fruit.”

God makes it a point to send us at just the right time peaceable fruit. Look for it and enjoy the joy it brings.
